The Belmont
may not be the most tradition bound of the races, but it is
the oldest. The first running of the Belmont Stakes in 1867
took place six years before the Preakness and a full eight
years before the first Kentucky Derby was run. In fact, the
Belmont is the oldest, continuously run, race in North
America. On June 19, 1867 at Jerome Park race course in the
Bronx, NY, a filly named Ruthless won the purse of $1800.
The current Belmont track, the largest race track in the
United States, opened in 1905.

Pimlico Race Course, home of the Preakness Stakes,
first opened its doors on October 25, 1870, making
it the second oldest racetrack in the nation behind
Saratoga. It is also one of the biggest locations
for horse betting in America.
Pimlico Race Course is constructed on 70 acres west
of the Jones Falls, Maryland. The Maryland Jockey
Club purchased the land for $23,500 and built the
racetrack for $25,000.
Pimlico has played host to racing icons for over a
century, where Baltimoreans have seen the likes of
legendary horses such as Man o’ War, Sir Barton,
Seabiscuit, War Admiral, Citation, Secretariat and
Cigar thunder down the stretch in thrilling and
memorable competition.

Triple Crown Horse Betting |
The Kentucky Derby is the first leg of
the run for the Triple Crown, horse racing's greatest
honor. To win the Triple Crown, a horse must first win
the Kentucky Derby, then the Preakness Stakes, and then
the Belmont Stakes.
Only eleven horses have won the elusive Triple Crown.
The grueling schedule of three races in 5 weeks at
longer distances than most have run previously in their
careers is probably the most difficult task any horse
will face in his racing career. Affirmed in 1978 still
remains the last Triple Crown winner. Sadly, the last
Triple Crown winner left alive, Seattle Slew, passed
away on May 7, 2002.

Betting and
Streaks
There is a basic principle with streaks. If you bet
against a streak, you can only win once but you could
lose many times. If you bet with a streak, you can only
lose once but you could win many times. Bettors often
violate this principal when they are on a winning or
losing streak. If they are on a winning streak, they
will decrease the amount they bet, figuring the streak
can't continue. And, if they are on a losing streak,
they'll increase the amount they bet, figuring the
streak will end. In both cases they're betting against
the streak, which is exactly what they shouldn't do.
Preakness Stakes Horse Racing
The horses to look out for in Lightweights are those
whose overall form shows that they are capable of
winning, regardless of the class of race in which they
compete.

Tips
Changes. Barn changes should be considered. A claimer
moving from a modest stable to a successful one will be
worth considering. Horses often will respond to the
change in surroundings. Other factors, such as a change
in feeding or in horseshoeing, may result in a rapid
turnaround as well.
